Totem animal stork and its properties. Stork
The stork is a particularly revered bird, endowed with human properties, a guardian and cleanser of the earth from reptiles and other evil spirits. A legend common in Belarus, Ukraine, Poland and northwestern Bulgaria connects the origin of the stork with man. When God became convinced of the harm worms and snakes caused to people, he collected them in a bag and ordered it to be thrown into the sea, into the fire, buried in a hole, or carried to a high mountain. Out of curiosity, the man untied the bag, and all the evil spirits crawled across the ground. As punishment, God turned a man into a stork so that he would collect and destroy snakes, frogs and other reptiles and clear the earth of them. The stork's nose and legs turned red out of shame. And the back turned black because the angry God whipped the stork with a rod, hit him with a hot iron, or pushed him into the mud. According to another, Ukrainian legend, the Stork became a peasant who was punished for plowing on a holiday. Since then, the stork always follows the plow. The Poles also say that a mower in a vest, whose pants fell off in front of Christ, was turned into a stork. Its braid has turned into a beak, and the black and white coloring of this bird is compared to the vest. They say that when arriving in the spring, the stork takes off his pants and wears a vest. The children tease the stork that he is not wearing trousers and beg him for a vest. And women joke that the ends of the unevenly woven fabric will end up on the stork’s pants.
People call the stork by human names: Ivan, Bogdan, Adam, Vasily, Wojciech, etc. Many human characteristics are attributed to the stork. It is believed, for example, that his legs resemble human ones. They believe that storks have a soul and “feel the heart” of a person, understand his language, and they themselves used to be able to speak like people. The sound of storks is mistaken for prayer. People often talk about how storks get together and celebrate weddings. The male and female are inseparable and are attached to their children. In the event of the death of one of the spouses, the other voluntarily goes to death after him, or may commit suicide out of jealousy. If a female is suspected of adultery, she is tried publicly and killed. Before leaving, the storks gather for a council and decide who they will not take with them.
The kinship of storks with humans is also seen in the fact that they settle next to people and are not afraid of them. It happens that a whole crowd of them knock on the house during cold weather to be let in to warm up. The idea of a human stork is also reflected in beliefs about an unknown land where these birds fly away for the winter. According to Bulgarian and Macedonian ideas, in this distant overseas land, storks swim in a magical lake and become people. In the spring, after swimming in another lake, they again acquire a bird's appearance and fly back. According to Polish beliefs, they become human by soaking their beaks in blood, and when they soak themselves in water, they become storks again. In Polish Pomerania they talk about another way in which storks regain their birdlike appearance. In the spring, on the seashore, they clap their hands, turn into birds, fly over the sea and return back. They believe that if a person lands on the shore of that sea, then in the same way he can turn into a stork and fly to their land.
There are signs associated with the first stork seen in spring. A flying stork portends health, agility, harvest, marriage; immobile - pain in the legs, death, drought, celibacy; a pair of storks - marriage or childbirth. When they see the first stork, they run after it, squat, somersault so that their legs don’t hurt; roll on the ground, lean against a tree or fence to prevent back pain; tie a knot so as not to see snakes; They throw the earth taken from under their feet into the water, with which they sprinkle themselves and their house so that there are no fleas. In Volyn, Polesie and neighboring Polish Podlasie, on Annunciation, bread is baked with the image of a stork’s foot, which children throw up and ask the stork for the harvest. Among the Southern Slavs, children greet the stork in the hope that it will bring a wallet with money.
The belief that the Stork brings children is especially widespread among the Western Slavs. The stork pulls them out swamps, from seas, brings it in a basket, in a tub, in a trough, throws it into the house through the chimney. Or throws it into the chimney frogs, which, entering the house through the chimney, take on a human appearance. The children were told that they needed to bet on window a plate of cheese for the Stork to bring the baby. The children asked the Stork to bring them a brother or sister, for example: “Busku, Busku, bring me Maruska!” In Belarus, during the celebration of the homeland, a man dressed as a stork came to the house and congratulated the parents on their newborn. According to signs, a child should be expected where the Stork circles, or to whom the Stork often flies to the field. If he stands on the trumpet during the wedding, the newlyweds will have a child. A woman dreams of a stork to indicate pregnancy or the birth of a son. Ideas about the Stork's attitude to childbirth are associated with the phallic symbolism of its beak, which is manifested, in particular, in the behavior of the stork disguised in the Christmas ritual, when he pecks girls with his beak.
A nest for the Stork is made on a house or near a house, using an old harrow or wheel, which, as they believe in some places, must be pulled in by a bachelor with the help of a girl. Everywhere a Stork's nest on the roof of a house is a lucky omen. It protects the house from lightning And fire, from hail, from evil spells and spirits, promotes profit in the household and enrichment owner. The house that the Stork avoids is considered cursed. The absence of a Stork’s nest in a house or village promises a fire, and the Stork’s departure from the nest means the desolation of the house or the death of one of the household. In anticipation of a lightning strike or fire, the Stork leaves the nest and carries the chicks.
Violation of the prohibition to destroy the Stork's nest, destroy the chicks and especially kill the Stork is considered a grave sin and promises the offender misfortune, death, the death of his mother or son, bodily deformities, blindness, deafness in children, damage to the farm, milk with blood in cows. The most common punishment is fire: it is believed that the Stork takes revenge on the offender by flogging fire with its beak or bringing in its beak a brand or coal with which it sets fire to the roof.
Zoroastrian horoscope: Stork
Ized: Almighty Heaven, Asman.
Symbol of the sign: Vigilance and dignity, immortality and longevity, care for loved ones.
The Stork has the soul of a lonely traveler who always returns home and feels tender affection for his loved ones. Once he falls in love, he forever remains devoted and faithful; once he is disappointed, he will remember it all his life. The main strength of the Stork is in understanding life, the ability to distinguish between the main things and study the world throughout life.
The stork is a scientist; for him, communication with the world comes down to the contacts he needs. Sometimes he is a victim of ridicule, but he never takes it painfully. He doesn’t care what people think about him - besides his family, in whose loyalty he is confident. But the Stork prefers to rely only on himself and does not make decisions that affect the interests of other people.
This person carefully watches what is happening while others enjoy empty talk or fun, but does not use his knowledge. Even a very gifted Stork does not seek recognition, so almost no one manages to fully appreciate the significance of his discoveries and his merits.

In the East, the stork is a popular emblem of longevity, and in Taoism - immortality. His calm standing on one leg gives the impression of dignity, thoughtfulness and alertness (sensitiveness), which makes it an image of meditation and contemplation. Because it is the only animal that in old age takes care of its parents, feeds them, and carries them with it over long distances, the stork received the name pious.

A person born under the sign of the stork is characterized as a lonely and silent traveler who always returns to his home to his loved ones.
It is difficult for such people to find a common language with others, so they often remain aloof from fame and recognition. Storks are monogamous people; on the personal front, everything works out well for them only if an alliance is created with a loved one.
People of this sign are very smart and are able to look at things intelligently. They choose their life path correctly and intuitively feel their purpose. They are completely indifferent to what strangers think about them, except for their family and close friends. Storks do not expect help or advice; they always rely only on their own strength. Most often they are thin, with long legs and an easy gait.
If a person has short legs, his gait is unsteady, and his face is plump, then he is considered to be under the influence of the woodpecker, the antitotem of the stork. Such people are fussy, irresponsible and often become the instigators of scandals.
