"The Gospel of Judas". First translation into Russian
"GOSPEL OF JUDAS
A secret retelling of the revelation told by Jesus in a conversation with Judas Iscariot three days before the celebration of Easter.
Coming to earth, Jesus performed miracles and wondrous deeds for the salvation of mankind. And since some walked the righteous path, while others were mired in sins, twelve disciples were called.
He began to talk to them about secrets unknown to the world, and about what would happen in the end. Often he appeared to his disciples not in his own form, but was among them like a child.
One day he was with his disciples in Judea and found them gathered together and sitting in pious attention. When he [approached] his disciples, gathered together, and sat down, and offered a prayer of thanksgiving over the bread, [he] laughed.
The disciples said to [him], “Master, why are you laughing at [our] prayer of thanksgiving? We did what we should.”
He answered them: “I’m not laughing at you. You are not doing this of your own free will, but because through this your God is glorified.”
They said: “Teacher, you […] are the son of our God.”
Jesus said to them, “How do you know me? Truly I tell you, not one generation of the people who are among you will know me.”
Hearing this, the disciples became angry and began to revile him in their hearts.
When Jesus noticed that they [did not understand him, he said] to them: “Why has confusion made you angry? Your god, who is within you, has […] caused anger [in] your souls. [Let] any of you, whoever is [strong enough] among people will show true humanity and stand before my face.”
Everyone said: "We are strong."
But none of them had the courage to stand before [him], except Judas Iscariot. He managed to stand in front of him, but could not look him in the eye and turned away.
Judas said to him: “I know who you are and where you came from. You are from the immortal abode of Barbelo. But I am not worthy to pronounce the name of the one who sent you.”
Knowing that Judas had lofty thoughts, Jesus said to him: “Get away from the others, and I will tell you the secrets of the kingdom. You can comprehend them, but you will grieve much. For another will take your place, so that the twelve [disciples] can be reconciled again to their god.” .
Judas said to him: “When will you tell me this, and [when] will the great day of light come for the generation?”
But when he said this, Jesus left him.
The morning after this happened, Jesus again [appeared] to his disciples.
They said to him: “Teacher, where did you go and what did you do when you left us?”
Jesus told them, “I am leaving for another great and righteous generation.”
His disciples said to him: “Lord, what is this great generation, better than us and more righteous than us, which does not now dwell within these borders?”
Hearing this, Jesus laughed and said to them: “Why are there thoughts in your hearts about a strong and righteous generation? Truly I say to you, no one born in this aeon will see that [generation], and no mortal can associate himself with it, for that generation does not come from […] what became […]. The generation of people among [you] from the human generation […] the power that […] the other powers […] [which] you rule.”
When [his] disciples heard this, each of them was troubled in spirit. They couldn't say a word.
The next day Jesus came to [them]. They said to [him]: “Teacher, you appeared to us in a [vision], for we had beautiful [dreams...] at night […].”
[He said]: "Why [you... when] did you hide?"
They [said: “We saw] a beautiful [house with a large] altar [inside and] twelve people - priests, as it seemed to us - and a name; and a crowd of people waited at the altar [for] the priests [... and accepted] the offerings. [ But] we continued to wait."
[Jesus said], “What do [the priests] look like?”
They [said: “Some ...] two weeks; [some] sacrifice their children, others their wives, in praise [and] submission to each other; some sleep with men; others trade [in murder]; some commit many sins and lawless deeds. And the people standing [in front of] the altar call on your [name], and in all their unworthy deeds sacrifices are made to the end [...].
Having said this, they fell silent, for they were alarmed.
Jesus said to them: “What troubles you? Truly I tell you, all the priests who stand before that altar call on my name. Again I tell you, my name is written on this [...] generations of stars through human generations. [And they] planted fruitless trees , in my name, in a shameful manner."
Jesus said to them: “Those of you who saw the acceptance of the offerings at the altar, such are you. Such is the god you serve, and you yourself are the twelve people whom you saw. The cattle being sacrificed are the many people you are bringing down.” from the path before that altar. […] will stand up and take advantage of my name, and the generations of the righteous will remain faithful to him. After him another man will stand up from [the adulterers], and another from the child killers will stand up, and another from those who sleep with men. , and those who abstain, and other people of filth, lawlessness and sin, and those who say: “We are like angels”; they are the stars who will bring everything to the end. For it was said to human generations: “Behold, God has accepted your sacrifice. from the hands of the priest" - that is, the preacher of error. But the Lord, the Lord of the universe, commands: "On the last day they will be ashamed."
Jesus said to [them]: “Cease the sacrifices you have […] on the altar, for they are above your stars and your angels, and have already reached the end there. Let them be [caught] before you, and let them go away [-about 15 lines missing-] generation […]. The baker cannot feed all creation under [heaven]. And […] to them […] and […] to us and […].
Jesus said to them: “Stop fighting with me. Each of you has his own star, and each [about 17 lines missing-] in […] who came […] for the tree […] of this aeon […] for a time […] but he came to water God’s paradise, and [the generation] that will endure, for [he] will not defile the [life path] of that generation, but […] for all eternity.”
Judah said [to him: “Rabbi], what fruit will this generation bear?”
Jesus said, "The souls of every generation of men will die. When these people have completed the time of the kingdom and the spirit has left them, their bodies will die, but their souls will live, and they will ascend."
Judas said: “What will the rest of human generations do?”
Jesus said: “It is impossible to sow seed on a [stone] and reap its fruit. [So] also […] the [defiled] generation […] and the corrupted Sophia […] the hand that created mortals so that their souls would ascend upward to the eternal limits. [Truly] I say to you, […] the angel […] power will be able to achieve that […] those who […] have righteous generations […].”
Having said this, Jesus departed.
Judas said: “Teacher, as you have listened to them all, now listen to me too. For I had a great vision.”
Hearing this, Jesus laughed and said to him: “You are the thirteenth spirit, why do you try so hard? But speak, I will tolerate you.”
Judas said to him: “In that vision I saw myself, how the twelve disciples threw stones at me and pursued [me severely]. And I also came to the place where […] behind you. I saw [the house...] and the eyes mine could not [encompass] its size. He was surrounded by great people, and that house had a roof covered with greenery, and in the middle of the house there was a [crowd - two lines missing -] saying: “Teacher, accept me with these people.”
[Jesus] responded by saying, “Judas, your star has led you astray.” He continued: “No mortal is worthy to enter the house that you saw, for that place is reserved for the righteous. Neither the sun, nor the moon, nor the day has power over it, but the righteous will always remain there, in the eternal abode with the holy angels. Behold.” , I explained to you the secrets of the kingdom and told you about the false path of the stars; and […] send […] into twelve aeons.”
Judas said: “Teacher, can it be that rulers have power over my seed?”
Jesus answered him: “Come, so that I [-two lines are missing-], but you will mourn much when you see the kingdom and all its generation.”
Hearing this, Judas said to him: “What good is it for me to accept this? After all, you have selected me for that generation.”
Jesus answered: “You will become the thirteenth, and you will be cursed by other generations - and you will come to rule over them. last days they will curse your rise to the righteous [generation]."
Jesus said: “[Come] that I may teach you [mysteries] which no one has ever seen. For there is a great and boundless mansion, the extent of which no generation of angels has seen, [in which] dwells a great invisible [Spirit],
which the eyes of an angel have never seen, the thoughts of the heart have never comprehended, and she has never been called by any name.
And a luminous cloud appeared. He said: “Let an angel be my companion.”
A beautiful angel, the enlightened divine Autogenes, emerged from the cloud. Then four more angels emerged from another cloud and became companions to the angel Autogenes. Autogenes said: “Let there be […]”, and […] arose. And he [created] the first luminary to reign over him. He said: “Let there be angels to serve [him],” and countless myriads arose. He said: “[Let] there be an enlightened eon,” and it arose. He created a second luminary to reign over him, along with countless myriads of angels, in order to serve. This is how he created the remaining enlightened eons. He commanded them to reign over them and created countless myriads of angels to help them.
In the first luminous cloud, which none of the angels among all who are called "God" had ever seen, was Adamas. He […] is […] in the image […] and likeness of [this] angel. He created the incorruptible [generation] of Set […] twelve […] twenty-four […]. He created seventy-two luminaries in an imperishable generation, according to the will of the Spirit. The seventy-two luminaries themselves created three hundred and sixty luminaries in the imperishable generation, according to the will of the Spirit, so that their number would be five for each.
Twelve aeons of twelve luminaries are their father, with six heavens for each eon, so that in total there were seventy-two heavens for seventy-two luminaries, and for each [of them five] vaults, [for a total of] three hundred and sixty [vaults...]. They were given power and a [great] multitude of angels [countless], for glory and worship, [and then also] immaculate spirits, for the glory and [worship] of all the aeons, and heavens, and their vaults.
The multitude of those immortals are called the cosmos - that is, hell - by the Father and the seventy-two luminaries, who are with Autogenes and his seventy-two aeons. In him the first man appeared with his incorruptible powers. And the aeon that came with his generation, the aeon in which the cloud of knowledge and the angel is called El. […] aeon […] after that […] said: “Let there be twelve angels [to] rule over chaos and [the underworld].” And behold, an angel appeared from the cloud, whose face sparkled with fire, and his appearance was stained with blood. His name was Nebro, which means "rebellious"; others called him Jaldabaoth. Another angel, Saklas, also emerged from the cloud. So Nebro created six angels - like Saklas - to help him, and there became twelve angels in heaven, and each received an allotment in heaven.
The twelve rulers spoke to the twelve angels: “Let each of you […] and let them […] be a generation of [-one line missing-] angels":
The first [S]eth, who is called Christ.
[Second] Harmatoth, whom […].
[Third] Galila.
Fourth Iobel.
Fifth Adonaios.
Here are the five who ruled the underworld, and above all chaos.
Then Saklas said to his angels: “Let us create man in our image and likeness.” They created Adam and his wife Eve, who is called Zoe in the cloud. For under this name all generations are looking for a man, and each of them calls a woman by these names. Now Saklas has not commanded... except […] generations... this is […]. And [the ruler] said to Adam: “You will live long, with your children.”
Judas said to Jesus, “[What] time has man been given to live?”
Jesus said, “Why do you ask this, that Adam and his generation lived out their lives in a place where he received his kingdom, enduring as its ruler?”
Judas said to Jesus, “Does the human spirit die?”
Jesus said: “This is why God commanded Michael to lend the spirit to the people so that they could serve, but the Great One commanded Gabriel to give the spirit to a great generation without a ruler over it - that is, spirit and soul. Therefore [the remaining] souls [-one line missing -].
"[...] light [-almost two lines missing-] around […] let […] the spirit [which is] within you abide in this [flesh] among the generations of angels. But God commanded [to give] knowledge to Adam and to those who with it, so that the kings of chaos and the underworld cannot possess it without their knowledge."
Judas said to Jesus, “What will these generations do?”
Jesus said: “Truly I tell you, for all of them the stars will complete the work. When Saklas has completed his allotted time, their first star will appear with the generations, and they will finish what they promised to do. Then they will commit adultery in my name and kill their own children and there will be […] and [-about six and a half lines are missing-] my name, and he […] your star above the [thirteenth] aeon.”
After this Jesus [laughed].
[Judas said]: “Teacher, [why are you laughing at us]?”
[Jesus] answered [said]: “I do not laugh [at you], but at the mistake of the stars, for these six stars travel with these five warriors, and they will all be destroyed along with their creatures.”
Judas said to Jesus: “Now, what will those who are baptized in your name?"
Jesus said: “Truly I say [to you], this baptism […] my name is [-about nine lines missing-] to me. Truly I say to you, Judas, [those who] offer sacrifices to Saklas […] God [-three lines missing -] everything that is evil."
"But you will surpass them all. For you will sacrifice the man in whom I am clothed."
Your horn has already been raised, your anger has flared, your star has lit up, and your heart […].
“Truly […] your last […] will be [-about two and a half lines missing-], mourning [-about two lines missing-] ruler, since he will be destroyed. And then the image of the great generation of Adam will rise, for before heaven , the earth and the angels there is that generation that is from the eternal limits. Behold, everything has been told to you. You will see the cloud, and the light in it, and the guiding star around it is your star.”
Judas looked up and saw a luminous cloud, and entered it. Those standing on the ground heard a voice coming from the cloud, saying […] great generation […] … image […] [-about five lines missing-].
[…] Their high priests were grumbling because [he] had gone into the guest room to pray. But several scribes remained on the alert in order to seize him during prayer, for they were afraid of the people, since everyone considered him a prophet.
They approached Judas and said to him: "What are you doing here? You are a disciple of Jesus." Judas answered them as they wished. And he accepted the money and handed him over to them.
We bring to your attention another book by Etienne Casse, dedicated to the investigation of a new artifact that has fallen into the hands of medievalist historians - the so-called “Gospel of Judas”. Messages that a new text has been found, deciphering which it will be possible to answer many questions of biblical and church history, excited everyone scientific world and ordinary people who were accustomed to the fact that Judas was assigned a certain role in Scripture, and his kiss became a metaphor for exquisite treachery. It is not surprising that this information interested both the sensation hunter and the master of investigative journalism Kasse.
The result of his work was a new book, which is a kind of report on the latest research of the author and his friends in the field of biblical studies. We hope that the new product offered to you will not disappoint you and will once again make you think about whether the established world in which for some reason we prefer to live without revising it is really so unshakable. Maybe it makes sense, like Casse, not to take any information for granted, to question everything and ultimately build your own picture of the world?

Gospel of Judas
Bless me, Holy Father, for I have sinned.
An interesting structure is the confessional. A cross between a wardrobe and a church pew, the varnished wooden structure is perhaps the only piece of furniture that has never attracted the interest of collectors. It’s unlikely that if you walk into a luxury modern house somewhere, say, Islington, you’ll see a confessional in the hallway and the proud owner will casually admit: “Well, we bought this thing at auction... We thought it would look great here. AND outerwear It’s very convenient to hang.”
The confessional resembles something else—like a cubicle in a prison visiting room, a place where, for a few minutes a month, inmates meet with free people to exchange a few platitudes and recriminations.
Bless me, Holy Father, for I have sinned. - Shadow behind bars. The close proximity of the nameless. Horror because the soul will now be exposed and the fear will no longer be able to remain unnoticed. - Bless me, Holy Father, for I have sinned. - But she only suffered from remorse - this scourge of all believers, a debilitating scourge, like a rash. Basically, remorse is something like a mental rash. If you scratch it, it will get even worse. Because of remorse, people go to Africa, where they conduct missionary work and become infected with a real rash. “I have doubts,” she said.
O Lord, my child! We all have doubts,” he told her. - And me too.
Is it true? And what?
In the one who hears this confession.
What was it that came from behind the bars - was it a suppressed laugh? He even glanced to the left, but behind the tangle of steel bars he saw only a shadow. Outside, people were milling around the large basilica; Inside the stuffy wooden box there was a mysterious intimacy between him and this barely distinguishable, elusive silhouette.
Through the barrier that separated them, there was a light scent of perfume - musky, with a sharp, but veiled fruity aftertaste.
Sorry, Holy Father. Sorry.
“You must take confession seriously or not confess at all,” he reproached the girl.
Of course, father.
Anything else besides these doubts?
I touched myself, father.
Just once? - You cannot be overly persistent. Of course, this is a sin. A whole serpentine pit of sins awaited the priest: voluptuous inquisitiveness and lust writhed in that pit like reptiles.
Repeatedly.
If it has become a habit, then that is one thing. If this is a random weakness, then it’s completely different. What is this.
She giggled softly. This time the shadow behind the bars of the confessional definitely chuckled.
More likely, it is still a random weakness.
Are you taking this seriously?
Sorry. I was amused by the way you said it - as if you were bargaining with me. They exchanged repentance for penance.
One should not mock such things.
Sorry,” she repeated. - Excuse me.
He said something about the true motives for confession and gave her a short lecture about sincere repentance, God's love and forgiveness of sins.
Sin is the absence of God. No more, but no less. If you truly want to return to God, then confession makes sense. Only in this case.
Yes, she said. - That's what I would like.
He noted the care with which she used the subjunctive mood, but did not draw attention to it.
To atone for your sin, read the Decateuch on the rosary and pray for your spiritual health. Now begin the rite of repentance.
Religious rituals are a language understood only by initiates. She uttered one small formula, consisting of self-criticism and a promise to take the path of piety, and he absolved her of her sins. Then she thanked him in a whisper and walked out of the cramped box, allowing that mysterious, fleeting intimacy that is inherent in the confessional to evaporate. This closeness fluttered out of the oppressive twilight and melted into the outside world.
He turned to the right and pulled back another shutter, revealing a new shadow there - a new lump of sins, doubts and ordeals.
Bless me, Holy Father, for I have sinned...
At six o'clock in the evening he locked the shutters and, like a surgeon pulling off rubber gloves, removed the stole from his neck. Whether it is a confessor or a surgeon, both are united by a sense of closeness (in the first case, spiritual, in the second, physical) and anonymity of communication. One rummages around in the insides of the patient, the other in the cherished secrets, and both carry out their work both humbly and indifferently.
Leaving the confessional, he went out under the crossing of the naves, under the terrifying empty dome, under the crooked mosaics, under a gigantic expanse that Michelangelo Buonarroti would call “a thief building that plundered the air.” Did ordinary empty space really awaken this supernatural feeling? People scurried across the mosaic floor like grains of sand caught by a wave: tourists, and pilgrims, and those in between (the latter, perhaps, were the majority). Candles flickered around the balustrade, from where one could look down onto the recess containing the apostolic tomb. People crowded there like street onlookers wanting to make sure it wasn't a fake. One girl once even asked him about it. Of course, he assured her that the apostle himself really may be buried here.
- May be buried, father?! - she was indignant. - What kind of faith is this?!
But really, what kind of faith is this? A pitiful, withered substance, a combination of habit, disobedience and anxiety.
The material fact itself is not important, he told her, and belongs rather to the field of archeology than theology. The spiritual reality is that you are just as close to God sitting in your living room as you are within the walls of the basilica. However, basilica becomes valuable if it strengthens your faith.
And then the woman - gray-haired, with a tired and disappointed face, with an accent that he took for German - asked a curious question:
A yours Does it strengthen your faith, Father?
It was raining outside. The lights sparkled on the damp basalt slabs of the piazza; the Christmas tree marred the whole decor, like a blot created by northern paganism. The orange glow of the city illuminated the clouds, like the glow of a destructive fire. He ran through the rain to his room, where he showered and changed for the reception that was to take place that evening in one of the city's countless palazzos. This reception closed the congress, which lasted all last week.
The reception turned out to be a very boring event - a flickering of black, gray and dark blue under the supervision of nymphs and goddesses who frolicked on the ceiling, made in the style of late mannerism. Pink breasts and flabby penises swayed above the heads of the respectable churchmen. Sometimes there was a flash of light: with the appearance of a bishop, or a female diplomat paying tribute to due politeness, or the wife of one Anglican priest (or even the beloved of another) - but the Roman Catholic spirit still dominated there, the spirit of clericalism, isolation and self-satisfaction .
This is Manderley Duer, he was told, and before he knew it, he was shaking hands with one of the few women in the room. She surprised him by being able to remember his name.
I think I read your article in the Times. Something about the Dead Sea Scrolls...
He glanced at her absently, feeling awkward in the woman's presence.
Not exactly scrolls... So, separate fragments. En-Mor Papyri.
The first Gospels,” said the man who introduced them. “This is probably the most important written evidence discovered in the last fifty years.”
The woman timidly tried to develop the topic.
But the point is that if these fragments really refer to the Gospels, then the countdown will need to be carried out from an earlier date than from the Jewish War of 66 AD?
That's what the article was about, Newman agreed. - From a political point of view, this is simply wonderful.
From a political point of view?
He glanced over her shoulder as if searching for something; perhaps he was looking for an escape route.
I mean the religious aspect of politics. This would be a real thorn in the side of those scholars who claim that the Gospels are later writings put together by the early church. But that’s not the point, is it? It's about the passages themselves - these texts, these testimonies.
She thought about his words, tilting her head slightly. A vague smile wandered on her lips.
